World War III

Thus far we’ve discussed many possibilities concerning the outcome of globalization. Some of the discussion is speculative to the point of being fantastic fiction. However, the threat is not fiction. The attack on the United States on September 11, 2001 by Saudi nationals operating under the guise of Islamic radicals did happen. NATO did combine forces with the Afghan resistance to topple the Taliban. The United States did invade Iraq, and depose Saddam Hussein.
The world is in turmoil, and we are at war with the radical forces of Islam. As of this writing, Pakistan remains an ally in the struggle against the Islamic fundamentalists, but the future of Pakistan is looking grim. Internal forces are rising to oppose the moderate dictatorship in control of that nation. At the same time, the NATO forces are now making incursions into Pakistan in opposition of Al-Qaeda operatives. This is further enraging Pakistani nationalists.
As Greg Knapp of KLIF in Dallas, Texas once said, “This is World War Three. It is not the World War Three we envisioned, but it is World War Three.”[1] For the sake of this section of the discussion, let us assume that Mr. Knapp’s assertion is valid to some degree.
We are seeing is not World War Three, per se. It is a precursor to World War Three. These events seem to match up more with the Spanish Civil War. That war was the test bed for the tactics and equipment of the fascists in Italy and Germany and the communists in the Soviet Union. Much of what was perfected during the Spanish Civil War was employed by the Nazis in the opening days of World War Two. The Blitzkrieg aerial assault followed closely by the massive thrust of mechanized armor and foot solders in occupation came out of the Spanish Civil War. Using that as a model, it is safe to project that we will continue to see the asymmetrical warfare observed in Iraq and Afghanistan spreading around the world. However, the nature of the war may soon change.
With the fluidity and escalation of the situations around the world, the state of affairs may actually bloom into full manifestation or war before this report is completed. Events are decaying swiftly. There can be little doubt that our enemies are well aware of the U.S. political cycle and are moving into position to make strategic advances around the November 2008 general election.
Some argue that such escalation would help secure the presidency for the GOP, while others point out that the radicals are jockeying for tactical or strategic positioning to move aggressively when the GOP is out of office. This is a bit self-absorbed. It is more likely that the opposition is simply taking advantage of the confusion during the change of office that occurs in from November 4, 2008 to January 9, 2009. George W. Bush will be stepping down. Remember it was mis-cues in this time frame in 1860 which led to our own Civil War.
The conspiracy theorists have focused on these elections as the time of great turmoil as well. It is worth noting only as it shows the level of anxiety on the domestic level. According to the conspiracy theorists, the Illuminati, backed by the Rockefellers in conjunction with the Zionists and players from Bohemian Grove, are planning to overthrow the Unites Sates. According to the current theory, multinational factions are planning on moving into position to dissolve the United States under marital law following another 9/11 type of attack. That will, in turn, lead the way to utilizing the forces of the United Nations in conjunction with the Blackwater private security firm to subjugate the citizens of the United States and fuse Canada, the United States, and Mexico into the North American Union. All of this is supposed to occur under an emergency extension of the presidency of George W. Bush. There are a few variations on this theme. This is worth noting just how uncertain and distrustful we have become to our federal government in general.
In the closing days of the Clinton administration, right wing factions were broadcasting the rumor that Clinton was going to crown himself king of the United States using Y2K as an excuse. Much the same rhetoric is coming from the left and libertarians concerning the last days of the Bush Administration in conjunction with some supposed terrorist attack.
To people living and operating at level two of Maslow’s pyramid, there is always some great threat looming to topple the United States and enslave the to some evil empire. Inevitably these conspiracy theories go back to the “Anti-Christ,” the “One world government,” the “End Times”. Needless to say, in one form or the other, these conspiracies all point to the Jews as being the world’s opponent to freedom loving people. There has been some clinical research advocating that some 60% of the U.S. population is clinically neurotic. From what is observed in the workplace, and the political debates, it is hard to discount those numbers.
The Illuminati died out in the 18th Century. While the Freemasons and the Masonic Lodge still exists, they are about as politically homogeneous as any community that can be named. They hold to a hermetic philosophy of enlightenment and knowledge, beyond that there is no ruling class within the organization. Added to that, the lodge is dying off since the ideals of the Masonic order of God, family, and community do not play well to the masses in western society. The Masonic lodge is a community service organization, nothing more. Moreover, there is no connection between the Masonic lodge and Skull and Bones of Yale.
There is no world wide conspiracy to overthrow the government save for the relationship which the capitalists have to the respective governments to provide them with lucrative markets to ply their respective trades. Even Adam Smith pointed that out. The U.N. is not a great fan of George W. Bush, or his administration. They did not endorse the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
However, one cannot tell the conspiracy theorists such things. They have an argument to refute every reasonable fact, and they have a scapegoat to inject all their venom into. Add to this, the socially inept and paranoid theorists also feel that they hold secret knowledge that the people are unwilling to accept. They feel they are the only ones who have the real truth. They are the natural fringe which develops when the majority of society is functioning in fear. The problems in the United States today do not stem from some specific organization attempting to topple the government. They stem from the underlying philosophical assertions of individualism within a functioning society.
As to the threat posed by the conspiracy theorist, it is minimal. They are disorganized. They function in a paranoid environment of chronic mistrust. And they fixate on some outside force to blame for their inadequacies. Again, they function at Maslow’s level two of fear response. Moreover, anyone who is not accepting their liturgy of paranoia is suspect. The best response which can be made to individuals such as these is to stay far away from them, or risk being sucked into their delusions.
There is one unfortunate aspect to the whirl of conspiracy theories flung around the population. They distract from focusing on the real threat posed within the world today. It is not the Illuminati which need to be feared, it is the fundamentalists who spout hate rhetoric. They exist in the United States, and in the world at large. It is interesting to note that the tales of the Illuminati also infiltrate Islamic lore. This is the source material for the U.S. being labeled the “Great Satan” by the Islamic fundamentalists. In their version, the U.S. was founded by Satanists who were expelled from Egypt and fled to England in the 1600s. It is further interesting that Islam has picked up on the same theme to undermine the popular support for the various operations in the globe. The main element in all these conspiracies is that the Jews are behind them. As pointed out by Berman, the only thing that one can say is that they excel at whatever they attempt.
The Jews who moved to Israel did make the dessert bloom. The Arabs, on the other hand, have done little for their own people. The reason for this is simple: as long as they can play the victim, they can get the western world to funnel aid into them and excuse the atrocities. Those days are, however, coming to an end.
The western border of Pakistan has been a sieve through which munitions and people have crossed into Afghanistan. This was true in the 1970s to oppose the Soviets, and it is true today during NATO operations. Pakistan, if we accept the reports of the main street media, is our ally in the War on Terror. The current moderate government has been rewarded for cooperating with NATO and the US. The plot to blow up jets in flight over the Atlantic was foiled by a joint effort between Scotland Yard and the Pakistani government. However, there seems to be some scuttlebutt filtering through the U.S. media that opposition officials are now complaining that the U.S. bullied Pakistan into complying with U.S. wishes. That plays well in their press and allows them to make political points at the expense of the U.S. and their current government.
At the same time, however, in May of 2007 street violence in support of as dismissed Islamic judge erupted in Pakistan. In June of 2007 a mosque was taken over by Islamic fundamentalists holding women and children hostage. They had to be expelled by the Pakistan police under fire.
In December of 2005 there were two separate attempts to murder their current leader. The current unrest stems from the government being moderate Muslims and the general population leaning towards a more radical Islamic approach to life. This type of fundamentalist blow-back is not unusual when a culture feels that it is being culturally attacked. It can be seen in Hitler’s rise to power as well. Hitler represented the fundamentalist German ideal of the superiority of the blond hair, blue eyed, Aryan (or Saxon) people. Islam’s rise to popularity is similar in nature but it is based on pure religious philosophy and activities. Men in Afghanistan and Iraq have been murdered for shaving their beards. Women have been hung for teaching male children. Extremism is the appearance of any fundamentalist expression.
On the micro level the terms “Muslim” and “Islam” designate an individual’s surrender to Allah. However, on the macro-level they tend to denote specific and different world views. As such, the difference can and often does constitute a wildly different approach to addressing society’s issues. The Muslim approach is more individual, internal and spiritual. Jihad in this expression is the spiritual battle to be more submissive to the goodness of Allah and his expression in the individual’s life. Islam’s approach, as we have seen, is more political and aggressive.
The violence coming out of Islam is not unique to Islam, however. The deliberate bombing of soft civilian targets is, according to one reputable source, the invention of the Irish Republican Army. It is based on military principals first seen in World War One. It is meant to target the opposition’s economy and disrupt their ability to sustain a war effort. In the modern Islamic approach, the suicide bomber is no different than the Japanese divine wind, or Kamikaze, which first appeared late in World War Two when Japan was losing the war. The Islamic use of that tactic may equally be an indication that Islam is losing, or has lost, its war against Israel.
It is said that the car bomb is nothing more than a poor man’s cruise missile. While that statement may not be politically correct, it has value in keeping the tactics and delivery systems in perspective. The western propensity for using technologically advanced weapons only serves to divorce the delivery system from those who use them. In the end someone selects the target, someone delivers the weapon, and someone dies as a result of the weapon being used. Based on the 2007 Scotland bombing, the weapons are becoming less and less effective and may indicate that the finances of the Islamic extremists are drying up.
The low-tech terrorist weapons only increase the psychological shock since they are triggered by men, and now women, willing to die for their cause. The recent use of women, a protected class in Islam, as suicide bombers designates a divergence from normal tactics. It could be an indication of desperation to escalate the warfare. It could mean that the gender barrier is breaking down. It could be an extreme way to chide men into taking action. It could indicate a depletion of men willing and ready to die for the Islamic cause. It could be a further indication that Islam is losing.
As noted before, the use of suicide bombers is a very poor use of limited resources, and the bravest of Islam are being depleted by the tactic. As General Patton said, “No one has ever won a war by dying for his country; he won it by making the other poor, dumb, bastard die for his country.”[2]
In Iraq alone the estimated casualties is in the 60,000 range. The majority of that seems to be Muslim on Muslim sectarian violence. In the same time frame we have lost some 3,000 troops. It looks like our forces are collateral damage in the wider civil war among the Iraq people. Effectively speaking Islam is, right now, destroying itself for the cause of capitalistic gain. Whoever is left standing once the killing is over is the one who reap the rewards of developing the Iraqi oil fields. They want to do this along religious tribal identification, that is their decision to make, but it is effectively what is being fought for in Iraq. The corporations which rise out of the dust of this mayhem will do business with anyone who has the price.
The news coming out of Pakistan is sketchy at best. The country by and large is Islamic, if we are to believe our current media releases, and the government is moderate Muslim. Some reports have placed the Pakistani military at two thirds Islamic. The creator of Pakistan’s nuclear program is also Islamic, but has refused to cooperate with other Islamic elements in assisting in developing a weapons system outside of Pakistan. While there is a movement within Pakistan to keep the nuclear arsenal out of the hands of Islamic radicals, radical Islam, according to our press, is only a stuttering heart beat away from securing a source of developed, tested, proven, ready to deploy nuclear weapons. Islam does not have to wait for the development in Iran or negotiation with North Korea to secure such weapons. It only has to topple the moderate government currently holding power in Pakistan. It is not unreasonable to conclude that it is only a matter time until the government of Pakistan changes hands. They too have an election coming up in 2008. And it is that election, not the U.S. election which Pakistan is concerned about.
For better or worse, President George W. Bush has the world very concerned about what reprisals can be expected if the Islamic war of liberation is escalated. Even in Iraq, with some 3,000 military fatalities and some 1,000 civilian contractor fatalities, the aggression against Collation forces has been minimal. While it is open to interpretation, these numbers alone, when compared to the same time frame in the Korean Conflict, would suggest that the Collation forces are more collateral damage in an on-going Iraqi Civil War. This is not the spin we chose to put on the reports since sensationalism brings in viewers, listeners, and readers. Based on the actions of the Islamic fighters – it is hard to call them freedom fighters, since it is a sectarian war for control of resources and not any war of liberation – even they are thinking twice before pushing this administration any further. They took one lucky shot at the U.S. on September 11, 2001 and have taken losses around the globe since then.
A rational person would need to pause at that statement. There is, again, a lot of noise in the underground about the attack being an inside job. The link is usually with the Rockefeller group in conjunction with the Messsaude (Israeli Secret Service) and the CIA/FBI orchestrated by the Bush Administration as a pretext to go to war on behalf of Israel in the Middle East. Israel has not substantially gained anything from our war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Two, Saudi Arabia has gained, and, with them, the oil cartel in general. Moreover the Saudi royal family who owns about 8% of the U.S. was given special treatment by Bush following the attack on September 11, 2001. They were literally evacuated out of the U.S. by Presidential order, according to Fahrenheit 9/11. Furthermore, the Saudi Air force flies sophisticated F-16 so it is not outside the scope of plausibility that some of their pilots could have flown those 757s into the World Trade Center.
The persistence of the rumors and accusations that the attacks were committed under the direction of the Bush administration only, again, show how fearful the people of the United States have become of their own government. How factual we can take these counter accusations is left to the individual to decide. If it is an indication that much of this is very dirty politicking, it would be in the absence of anyone in the leftist leadership quietly raising a private army to oppose the Bush administration. If they truly believed that Bush was responsible then logic would dictate that they would be taking some kind of action to drive him from office as a murderous traitor to the United States. Since that is not happening, not even at the level of the Militia in the 1990s, one can conclude that these charges are nothing but hot air to promote a further right or left radical agenda. This fear and paranoia, however, may be another indication of the corporations losing control of the competitive force which they have done so much to cultivate over the past two and a half decades. There are questions remaining unanswered for the events of 9/11. Not one of which is how can the U.S. spend so much money on intelligence and get it so wrong. They were wrong about the terror threat of 9/11 and they were wrong about the WMDs in Iraq. Since the U.S. spends something close to 80 billion dollars a year on Intelligence Services, one has to conclude that it was not going for Intelligence.
While it is not within the scope of this report to take any position on what occurred outside of a skeptical acceptance of the 9/11 Commission’s assertions, there are questions which still remain. As of August 3, 2007, the day after the bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota collapsed due to faulty maintenance, it does not look like the U.S. citizens are going to get any clear answers as to what happened in the fall of 2001. While it is pure speculation, the collapse of the World Trade Center Towers One, Two, and Seven may equally be due to improper construction. It would not be beyond the scope of plausiblity that corners were cut during construction which had a direct impact on what occurred on that fateful day in September of 2001. Maybe, if we wake up to a rational world in the future there may be some form of Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the U.S. to find out what happened. Too many answers are left to speculation right now.
Why did tower seven collapse? The fire in Tower Seven from the debris from One and Two simply could not have gotten hot enough. What hit the Pentagon? The official explanation of a 757 vaporizing doesn’t make sense. Based on the penetration and debris field, it does not resemble a Jumbo Jet crash site. For that matter the debris field in Pennsylvania looks a bit dubious when compared to photographs of other Jumbo Jet crash sites. Then there is the mystery of the Anthrax letters sent shortly after 9/11. Was that a domestic terrorist attack piggy backing the international terrorist attack? Was it part of the original attack?
The idea of sending biological agents through the mail goes back to 1975 in a science fiction called the 11TH Plague. In that work of fiction it was an attack by an Islamic nation to cripple the United States just before an attack on Israel. Could some rogue individual gone off half-cocked attempting to achieve the same end? This would not be dissimilar to Tim McVeigh’s bombing of the Murrah Federal Building to start a Civil War, or Charles Manson’s murder spree to start a race war. Moreover, who was responsible for manipulating the options on insurance companies and airline companies just prior to 9/11?
In this day and age, with so much computerization and the amount of money funneled into law enforcement at the federal level, it is hard to believe that anyone can play the market at that level and remain untraceable. In May of 2007, credible independent investigators concluded, based on forensic evidence, that there probably was a second shooter from the “Grassy Knoll” when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. This verified the finding reported in the 1990s as well. The magic bullet is not so magical if it comes from a different weapon fired from a different location. However, that knowledge does little good some forty-four years after the fact. It would behoove the citizens of the United States to demand a clear accounting for what occurred in the Fall of 2001 before we stumble into World War III based on some very bad assumptions.
There is a great deal of criticism of the U.S. having developed an idiot culture. We have delved on that to some degree in the previous chapters. However, when a culture is faced with this kind of uncertainty and official disinformation (which is apparent in the recent Kennedy findings) how can the people can be anything other than disconnected from the body politic? They know they are being scammed. They know they are going to be lied to. The most they can expect is half-truths which are self-serving to the power brokers themselves. What is left but to respond to the carnival of the absurd with more absurdity?
At that point, given the general gloom, what is left but to fixate on getting stoned and/or drunk, and laid? Based on reports out of England and the E.U., it doesn’t sound like they are doing much better. There is a general “feel” that a cataclysmic confrontation is looming, and as is often the case with a fear response humanity seeks solace in human companionship and escapism. Hence the perpetual “party” of the idiotic culture. With stating it as such, it is still “eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we shall die.” Everything out there seems to point towards some form of doomsday.
If an Islamic takeover of Pakistan wait until after January of 2009, when Bush leaves the White House, there is likely to be a prolonged delay in any response by a new administration. The current political climate with Bush’s approval rating just a few points above Nixon’s when he resigned will haunt the next administration. They may be reluctant to follow in the footsteps of George W. Bush. Hillary Clinton has already gone on record saying that she will shut down the operations in Iraq if she is elected. The U.N., as of August 3, 2007, is beginning to ramp up its presence in Iraq. Bush may begin to withdraw troops from Iraq before the election for the sake of preserving some semblance of GOP victory. There is a push to have the Iraqi government clean up oil revenue sharing and security. This pressure is in direct response to popular support for U.S. isolationism. The citizens of the United States do not like messy engagements with no clear cut objectives. They have to be appeased just enough to vote in the next general election.
Within twenty four hours of a switch in Pakistan’s government, any alignment with Islamic fundamentalists will be covered up. The media will be bombarded with assurances that an orderly transition is taking place. We will be told, if anything, that Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is in the hands of responsible government agents. This will buy the new government the time it needs to adjust itself to the situation. This period will go on for about two weeks. The “responsible” agents of the current government will be replaced by “responsible” agents of the new regime. Some of the old regime’s agents will simply disappear. The whole situation could very well end right there with little further international concern.
After a month or so, of assurances, the U.S. will begin organizing some sort of diplomatic mission to Pakistan. That will be accompanied by the U.S. fleet just as a reminder that that the U.S. is vigilant in the game. This show of force will be met with anything from official indifference, to concern, to outrage. It depends upon who ascends to power and how much risk they are willing to take. Initially the diplomatic initiative will be met with continued assurance of mutual cooperation. This will buy the radicals time to organize and develop a level of technology which they presume will give them an advantage in opposing U.S. intervention in the region.
Using low-tech delivery systems, Pakistan can move nuclear warheads into strategic locations. They would probably attempt a time-on-target approach so that the devices go off simultaneously. The target list would include the government in Afghanistan, Bangalore, India, the Green-Zone in Iraq, the U.S. fleet in the Indian Ocean, the Persian Gulf, Washington, D.C. via the Potomac, and New York via any one of a number ports. As to what constitutes low-tech delivery systems, they can be fishing boats, cargo containers, zodiac rubber boats, and rental trucks.
We are assured by Hollywood’s fiction that we would be able to “sniff” out such weapons. Mind you, this assurance is given after Tim McVeigh executed his murderous attack on the Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and nineteen terrorists struck in New York and Washington, D.C. It is an assurance which is dubious at best. The FBI, the CIA, the NSA, and Pentagon have also assured us that another attack, with a fatality toll similar to 9/11, can happen again. It has to be remembered that with a nuclear weapon the enemy does not have to be centered on target to exact a heavy toll.
The following is an excerpt from Ground Zero’s 1982 book Nuclear War: What is in it for you?[3] It describes the effects of a one megaton nuclear weapon detonated at ground level.

Starting at the point of detonation, you would find yourself in a huge crater about a thousand feet wide and two hundred feet deep. As you left the crater … the first recognizable landmarks would be a few massive concrete bridge abutments and building foundations. You would not find any significant standing structures until you had climbed over layers of debris piled as high as … twenty feet. Most important … there would be virtually no survivors.
As you worked your way through the second … circle, you would find all homes blasted flat. Only basements and foundations would survive more or less intact.[4] Although most heavy industrial plants[5] in the inner part of [this] circle would be destroyed, some industries on the outer periphery of [this range] would remain in useable condition. About half the area’s … population … would be dead, and most of the remainder would have sustained [serious traumatic] injuries. Most of the fatalities would have occurred from collapsing buildings, flying debris, fire and the like.[6]
When you reach the third … circle, most buildings would be partially destroyed. Many automobiles in this area would be working,[7] but their usefulness would be limited by the debris that [clogged] the streets.[8] In addition [to the serious casualties], fires would pose a severe threat [to survivors] … since they start and spread with kindling material … in areas smashed flat.[9]
The damage in the outer ... range[10] would be light in comparison to the inner areas. For the first time you would find something that still looked like a city. Commercial structures and homes would have sustained only minor damage. Twenty-five percent of the population in this area would be injured and a few percent – still numbering in the thousands – would be dead.[11]

All of this occurs in a few seconds, much less time than it took to read the description, and far less time than it took to write it. This is the level of destruction which the Islamic fundamentalists would like to bring to the cities of the world. It is not just the U.S.A. who is sitting on ground zero, but every city in Europe and every city where western culture has become popular. We hear that we could appease the Islamic fundamentalists by leaving their holy lands. However, based on the recent saber-rattling coming out of Turkey over a resolution in the U.S. declaring that the Armenian Massacre[12] during World War I was genocide, the view that Islam only wants to be left alone is called into question. The leftist idea that Islam is somehow innocent of atrocities is somewhat childish wishful thinking, and flies in the face of historic fact and current events. However, given that many people are still functioning at level two of Maslow’s hierarchy it is of little wonder that historical fact is called into question.
The Islamic fundamentalists have shown, going as far back as the Munich Olympics in 1972 that they will die for their God and they care who they take with them. This again is seen in Pakistan with the attempt to assassinate Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto which left 136 dead and 250 wounded in October 2007[13]. It is only a matter of time until the aims of the Islamic terrorists meet up with access to resources. This will extend their murders to the hundreds of thousands, if not millions.
Following an attack on India and centers of Western influence in conjunction with the disruption of world market functions, the E.U. will begin a systematic detention of all Arabs to clear them of any connection to Islamic radicals.
As far as the Islamic radicals are concerned, if the moderate Muslims are punished for the actions of the radicals, it is of little concern. The Islamic radicals consider the moderates in bed with the Great Satan and if they are punished they deserve to go to hell anyway. They have proven this attitude in Iraq’s civil war. Barbers are murdered because they shave other men’s beards. They lynch women who teach. We hear the “hue and cry” over Blackwater’s trigger-happy security officers, but little attention is being paid to the atrocities committed by Islamic radicals in war zones. The sectarian murders are so numerous that they pretty much either go unreported by the media or simply get grouped together under the title of sectarian violence. It is as if the West accepts such murders as normal and acceptable behavior. The lack of reporting smacks of politics. Even the conservative FOX news underreports the murders that are occurring in Iraq by Iraqi fundamentalists.
The only response that is left to the west will be to round up, detain, screen, clear or deport immigrants of the Arab world current within western borders. Under the Patriot Act in the U.S. it can be done in the United States.
Beyond the point of initial engagement with a Pakistan initiated strike against the West, it is anyone’s guess how the situation will turn out. Questions concerning China and Asia remain unanswered. Moscow is warning the U.S. not to take action against Iran. China still backs North Korea. Russia and China have a mutual aid agreement. All of that is tossed into the mix. China could support the Islamic radicals the same way that Russia is supporting Iran. On the other hand, China and Russia could sit out the situation and let the E.U. and U.S. get bloodied by the Islamic fundamentalists. By doing almost nothing the control of the globe shifts from the Saxon to the Asia. The shift will not end the conflict. It will be a by-product of the conflict. China wins by default.
Focusing back on the U.S. response, we could see the internment, detention, and execution of both Islamic radicals and Muslims who are falsely accused. Thus far our system has managed to avoid this extreme as shown in the verdicts handed down on October 22, 2007 in the Holy Land Foundation trial in Dallas, Texas. Due process, expensive as it may be, is still working. However, following a nuclear attack on the soil of the United States, due process, if it exists at all, will become sloppy due to collective paranoia. The control of the United States will shift from a dead central government to the “Shadow Government” selected in advance to survive an attack on Washington, D.C. This shadow government was admitted to exist by George W. Bush following the events of September 11, 2001. It is not a fiction concocted by conspiracy theorists. The states will follow the edicts of the Shadow Government only as long as it takes to call a national general election. Their patience would hold only until the following November General Election, federal laws and executive orders notwithstanding.
If the election of new federal officials is delayed, it is possible that a rift would develop between the various legally, surviving state officials and the appointed officials of the Shadow Government. This rift could lead to a power struggle for control of the national government. Eminent domain comes into play in this discussion. Who is left to best serve the needs of the nation in the aftermath of a catastrophic but limited attack against the U.S.?
Much of the population of the east will migrate west due to the fear of fallout and the inadequate infrastructure to sustain employment and secure safety. This will mean millions of homeless and jobless people taxing an already fragile economy. We will become the refugees we see on our nightly news.
Any community which receives the displaced population will be hard pressed to accommodate them. The displaced of Katrina numbered in the hundreds of thousands, and yet the communities who received them found it difficult to accommodate them. Texas, two years after accommodating the evacuees of the Gulf Cost following the Katrina disaster, is still struggling with the effects on a social and economic level. Lest we think this is somehow a new phenomenon, the refugees from the Dust Bowl[14] (1933 to 1939) were hard pressed to find acceptance elsewhere in the nation. This is documented in the Grapes of Wrath, a fictional work by John Steinbeck. The displaced from New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, would be in the millions even if it is only a limited evacuation. It is difficult to speculate on how many people will be in movement based on evacuations ordered by F.E.M.A. and the various Offices of Emergency Management and how many people will simply run in panic. This would make the evacuation of Houston preceding Hurricane Rita look like a holiday traffic jam.
Additionally, at a time when the economy is less than robust and with the diminished economic capacity of a declining middle class, the ability of people to fend for themselves in advance of such an attack is greatly diminished. Even those aware and willing to take precautions are hard pressed to respond now with adequate supplies for the recommended three days it will take F.E.M.A. to respond. The lack of response to Katrina, in conjunction with the lack of credible information coming out of the E.P.A. concerning air quality in Manhattan following the 9/11[15] attack, will be greatly diminished while the standing government is attempting to establish order.
Within the civil and political upheaval following such an attack, anyone who has ever done business in the Middle East will come under public suspicion. This is especially true as the economy grinds to a halt following the destruction of India’s technical support for the banking industry. Spurred on by the likes of FOX news and conservative talk radio, following the obliteration of some 30 miles of prime east cost property, the loss of the Navy’s fleet in the Indian Ocean, the annihilation of the forces in Iraq’s Green Zone, the U.S. population will be out for blood.
The Pentagon holds the use of nuclear weapons in distain. They prefer chivalry, heroics, and precision over mass destruction. They prefer men with machines making decisions on a given battlefield. However, a Dresden raid in the future is not unthinkable.
Anyone in the Middle East who utters distain against the West’s actions will be brutalized. The conjunction of technical superiority, full mobilization of every able-bodied person between the ages of 18 and 45, plus the enlistment of less able men to secure the home front (all of which occurred in World War II), will produce a fighting force capable to occupying all of the Islamic lands. There will be no JAG investigations for atrocities during the duration of the war, and very little done after the fact.
There is not a single nation on the earth who has not resorted to barbarous tactics when attacked. The people of the United States, let alone the people of the West in general, are just people, and in the end they will respond to any major attack with brutality. No matter what ideals they hold, they will do whatever it takes to survive. This is not bravado or rhetoric; it is simply the truth of human history.
Having said all of this, it is worth noting that Pakistan is now engaging in an internal struggle to keep the radical Islamic faction from taking over. Moreover, Iran is as likely to take the trek towards nuclear suicide as are the radicals in Pakistan. As this is written, relations between Turkey and the West (specifically the U.S.) are in decay over the issue of the Armenian genocide and the Kurds in Iraq. All of this has to be taken into account before anyone decides to put Pakistan on a watch list as a rogue nation. More than likely, no matter what happens, the radicals in Pakistan are contained.

[5] Those not sold off and moved outside the United States; as of this writing in October 22, 2007, very few are left in any viable U.S. target range due to the elimination of industry following globalization.
